Sorry I'm not very good at writing in RP, so here's how it happened OOC.

When I played Everquest back in the day, I never expected to do any raiding. I wasn't even max level for over two years. But there was this great guild dedicated to tradeskilling named the Povar / Tarew Artisans and I joined up with them. After a couple of years of that, Friedrich decided we had critical mass that we could take on Lady Vox. At the time the max level was 60, so she would banish from her realm anyone that was above level 52, lest a group of 6 come and slay her. We got pretty good at Vox, then leveled past her. Soon we had an alliance with another guild and were taking on Kunark bosses and stuff in Velious. PTA broke up when Friedrich left, but we reorganized with a new name, "Hawkestone". The majority of the people in Hawkestone I already knew, but one was a former member of the top guild on our server (whose name I forget). We started doing Temple of Veeshan, NToV, and Planes of Power content. We started getting Sleeper's Tomb keys.

Finally we had enough keys and it was time to head into Sleeper's Tomb. THIS is the most memorable raid. For at least two years at the time this zone had been the epitome of raiding secrecy. Mostly because top guilds on every other server had already awoken the Sleeper long ago to prevent anyone behind them getting the loot. Kind of a dick move, but common. On Xev however, the top guild left the sleeper sleeping in his bubble when they abandoned the zone. Subsequent guilds had apparently made an agreement NOT to wake the sleeper, but to always leave a warder up so that they could all continue to farm the gear from this zone.

So we got together one Saturday morning to see how far we could get. It was pretty exciting seeing new content as always. We were actually doing pretty good most of the way through. We got down to the warders and started pulling them one at a time. After killing three of them most of us assumed we were done and would come back next week and do it again. But Synd said get ready for another pull. WHAT?!? My heart beat faster and adrenaline pumped through my veins. I could feel the excitement in my tingling fingers and toes. We pulled the last warder and killed him without much trouble. Then Kerafyrm decided he needed to get up and take a stroll...right on our heads. Soon it was a server-wide event and we got threats of violence, censure and pariah.

Of course we were defiant, but it turned out to be pretty accurate. A year later, Hawkewind was no more and I stopped playing EQ. A while after that I had an opportunity to travel for business to the town where the Hawkewind leadership lived, so I made contact. I had a chance to meet face-to-face with the people who led me into the most exciting...and most depressing times in EQ. There they admitted that the entire Hawkewind experiment had always been about waking the Sleeper. Synd wanted to give Xev the big finger before leaving the game for good and we were his unwitting dupes. So even though it didn't end well and was never intended to, waking the sleeper was the most memorable raid I've ever been on.

Ahh Trakanon. Lovely Trakanon.

Our raid force wandered down DEEP into Sebilis. This was back before the shattering.. and well before anything really was known about this wee beastie.

I'd sent a scout down, and he'd not returned, so I sent his sister down to make sure he'd not gotten his fool self eaten.

We were all moving slowly through the corridors, making sure we left no trace of our comings.. and goings.. All the myconids were removed, no corpse.. nothing.

Low and behold.. we'd found him.. we dispatched his guards.. we were ruthless... we were cunning.. we were... stupid.

I rounded my healers up.. I gave them the ideas.. told them to do what they do.. heal like the wind.. and cure anything this diseased looking bastard had on his plate to send at my fighters.

I gathered Diomed and told him his job.. he knew it.. he almost drooled over the thought of tanking that ugly half decayed dragon. All my scouts were ready.. my magicians were on the edges of their slippers.. and hiding behind the healers. Bravery.. huh.

We charged.. we engaged. We were brave fools.. and we knew our superiority. We found out he could banish people for his safety .. the hard way. We also found out that if he got stuck on the rocks.. he would warp up the walls.. to the Zone In...

First of all once we figured out we'd lost a dragon.. imagine the holllers.. HEEEEERE Trakieeeee..
those quickly turned into shouts of *lost dragon.. black.. ugly.. green... please call.. reward... to
OH CRAP at the zone in.

yes.. we'd not only lost him.. we'd gotten him stuck up at the zone in .. anyone who entered that day died.. instantly..
and so did we. Trak can summon.. and banish. Oh.. the fun of watching your army poof and die. We mada huge pile for the Immortals ( gm's) to come fix!

Funnest raid ever.. it was the first and LAST time we ever started a raid without a gnome sacrifice.

GO GO MACHIN SHIN!

Well, WAY back in the prehistoric times of pentiumII's and 128Mb of RAM, I played a little game called EverQuest! My first "raid", if you could call it such, is the most memorable. It was in a little zone, perhaps you have heard of it, connecting to the Greater Feydark...name of Crushbone, it was called. I remember it fondly.
My first foray into Crushbone came at the insistance of an online friend at the time. "SCORE PHAT LEWTZ AN' XPZ?!?!?!", he touted. So, being a brash and cocky young adventurer, I followed along. XP and Gold by the boatload, did we haul out of yon camp of Orcs. It was a much needed treasure trove of wealth and power. Sadly, the glimmer wore off one day, round about 15th level.
We had made our way 'round and 'round the keep nearly endless times. Telling ourselves that the haul out here being so prosperous, just IMAGINE the trove of wonders we would find inside! So, we placed a call for strong willing adventurers who would join us in our quest to slay the foul Emperor Crush...and many a brave hero answered the clarion ring for justice.
Armed to the teeth, we stalked our way deeper and deeper into the fetid stink of the foul Orc dens. Nary a resistance did we come up against that we couldn't overcome. Brimming with confidence, we stormed wrecklessly into the throne room of the Evil Orc King, so intent on our quarry, that we blundered blindly and hopelessly into an ambush the likes of which we were not prepared for.
Suddenly, we were swarmed by orcs and dark elves alike, they having sent an ambassador to secure an agreement with the foul creatures. We knew we were in for a hell of a fight. With a roar of rage and bloodthirst, our barbarian warrior companion charged into the fray as our cleric sent up prayers to her gods above to both strengthen and shield us from the wrath of vile creatures. The wizard whispered words of power, his hands aglow with eldritch light. Glancing around, the rogue had slipped into the darkness, providing support to those in the frontlines.
Alas, valiently we fought, and foolishly we were slain, layed to waste upon the throneroom floor. Our prodigous strength counted for naught against the might of the Orc Emperor and his Faithful Royal Guard. Our entire noble quest was brought to ruin, but for the simple mistake of hubris. Pride cometh before the fall, or so it's been said by fools and sages for centuries. The higher you are, the farther you fall.

It was great meeting everyone and seeing everyone from last year again. A shame that we didn't get a chance to match up everyones schedules to get a guild photo like last year though. I guess that means we just have to try harder next year.
We have to see if we can beat that other guild and get 35+ members to show up next year :)
