Alert! Thievery At Fan Faire!

- Posted by - Jul 10, 2011 ¦ 4 Comments

I am outraged.  I was just informed that, fantasy artist, Larry Elmore was Ripped Off during the 2011 Fan Faire.  While he was with a potential customer, some thief stole his cash box, containing cash, and credit card receipts!

We gamers are usually a tight nit group and very respectful and in awe of our artist.. and this dishonorable act has us up in arms.

If you purchased anything from Larry’s table this weekend, PLEASE…

  • Check to make sure your purchase was completed through your bank
  • Contact your bank and alert them to possible credit card fraud
  • And most important.. If were NOT charged for your artwork, PLEASE contact Larry Elmore and do the right thing by making sure his work is compensated for.

Larry Elmore is a wonderful artist with strong ties to the Fantasy and Gaming community.. and he was wronged, horribly, by either a walk-in with no integrity, or even worse.. one of our own.

We encourage everyone to visit Larry’s Elmore’s website, and make a purchase.  We can not let this act go by the wayside.  Support Larry Elmore as thanks for everything he does for the gaming community.

Unfortunately for whatever reason – the Grand Ballroom was the ONE room that did NOT have cameras… and I got hotel security for him and they were kind of like “well…it’s not our problem” which was really uncool imo. I think part of the issue with someone walking away is I’m pretty sure whoever did it bought a print or something large and concealed it. There were also tons of people with bags of various sizes.

Ugh, outrageous indeed! Larry Elmore has always been my favorite fantasy artist since I first picked up a Dragonlance novel as a youth and I’m horrified that this would happen to him. Thank you Jethal for bringing this to our attention. Larry has at least two prints sold thanks to your heads up!

“Death of Sturm” and “Dragons of Norrath” in case you’re curious!

Didn’t someone report it to hotel security. Even though ‘what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’ it’s rare that you’ll find someplace that isn’t covered by multiple cameras. Even if the table wasn’t covered, the person didn’t “beam out” once they grabbed the box. It it was bigger than a wallet and the person walked away with it, hotel security could find it.

This was indeed a very unfortunate happening during Fan Faire. Larry Elmore is such a sweet guy and did not deserve such a thing to happen to him. Just the audacity of whoever did it…they’re lucky I didn’t have Ice Comet prepared because it woulda been cast right up their… well I can’t say that here. Anyways, I will let you know that Mr. Elmore was taken care of, but I’m sure he greatly appreciates the shout out for those that lost their credit card info.
