You’ve seen the banner all over this site, but what does it mean? To truly understand the color scheme and design, one must look to the past and the Ranger’s of Antonica.
The banner consists of two parts. The horizon and the Forest. The original banner, as you see it Here, shown a rich green tree against a gradient of horizontal hues of blue. Representing the mid-day sky and the forest on a clear Norrathian day. This banner may be found in a few places. The first, being Surefall Glade, just North of Old Qeynos and was commonly referred as the symbol of the Rangers of Karana, Humans or Half Elves.
Curiously enough, it is found in one other place. The Dark Forest of Kithicor. Why is this unusual? you may ask us. Well, Lord Kithicor, himself, is a Wood Elf. The Wood Elf Rangers, known as the Faydark Champions, fly a banner of two crossed arrows, against a redwood background, as seen Here. This in itself, brings to light the fact that Kithicor.. does not follow under the word of Tunare. But, instead, has chosen Karana as his deity. Perhaps some deep, dark tragedy forced Lord Kithicor to turn from Tunare to follow the path of the Storm Lord. This concept is not unfamiliar, as Jethal has had his falling out with the Mother Goddess and does not, in fact, follow Tunare either.
Here you can plainly see the banner of Surefall flying high at the cabin of Lord Kithicor within the Dark Forest.
This brings us to the current banner of the Legion of Kithicor. During the formation of the original Legion of Kithicor, we chose to adopt the banner portraying the blue horizon, thus gathering under Kithicor’s flag. After the rebirth of the Legion, we sought to change the banner to better reflect the turmoil and destruction left in the wake of the Rendering of the Lands and Shattering of Luclin.
The current banner of the Legion of Kithicor (here) portrays, again, a rich green tree in the foreground, but on the opposite side of the plain, therefore distinguishing it from the old flag in one aspect, while reflecting that we are looking to the new horizon. The horizon displays a deep red, orange and gold sky – symbolizing the sun setting on yesterday, but not fully out of our collective thoughts. The color scheme is also to portray the belief that Kithicor’s Forest burned during the Rending before being lost to the Phantom Sea.
