When is Smed going to give Jethal a job that he can do from his current residence?

  • Seanguy

Will a transcript of the show be made available? I missed the first 30 minutes of the broadcast due to traffic…

Can I have a free potion to make my character lvl 90 instantly? Thought not but, doesn’t hurt to ask.

Seriously, love the SOE games. Currently playing EQ2, DCUO and Pirates of the Burning Sea.

Because of work and military obligations I have not once been able to play enough to get to max level in any of the games. And getting into a good active guild that will help is near impossible. I feel that I miss out on soooo much because of this.

My current account was created on Feb 2005. And I do think that it would be a good idea to offer (to long standing accounts ONLY) some kind of potion for gaining levels. It would make me want to play the game more if I can actually keep up with all of the amazing new content that’s coming out.

    • Swifthawk (Antonia Bayle server)

oops.. misspelled my in game name. Swifthawk, no e. :) C’mon! A guy can hope!

    • Swifthawk (Antonia Bayle server)

Marketplace items are there for players like me who put just as much money into the game as everyone else, but don’t have the time to sit for hours every day leveling.

I have bought every expansion for eq1. Every expansion for eq2. But, because I don’t have the time to grind to the highest levels possible I get slapped in the face and can’t enjoy the content that I pay for.

It would be GREAT to have a good guild to level with. It would be GREAT to have the time to play all the time. But, the reality is that I don’t. I simply want to see and play the content that I pay for.

I’m a long time Everquest and Vanguard player. Can you comment on your plan for Vanguard going forward? We read the Massively interview with Silius and are looking for additional details regarding the future of the game. Since updates are confirmed for the game this year, can you provide some insight into your plan for this game, is free to play still on the table and what you hope to accomplish with the new investment? Also looking forward to EQ Next!

    Thanks,

    Laz

I’m a really big fan of EQ2 (and Frogloks!), and things seem to be going in a good direction especially the last year (its as if the team had been doubled with the improvements to the game and new content!), so my questions are pretty much all on EQ2ish, while there are things I’d like to ask on the future of EQ2, but they all involve revealing details of EQNext so I won’t ask them! :)

    1) My first question has to be, back in the early days of EQ1 how did Frogloks come about into Everquest’s story? Was it the work of one Frog obsessed person, or were more involved? :)

    2) SOE games seem to have a smaller presence in Europe then the US, although it was good to see DCUO in retail stores earlier this year. Are there any plans to get more SOE games such as EQ2 expansions into retail stores in Europe, or are the future plans for more online only retail as regards to Europe?

    3) Ryan Favale started the work of converting EQ2′s graphics system to use shader 3.0, after seeing that a new engine has been developed would there be any possibility of EQ2′s art assets being translated to use it?

    4) Otherwise are there any plans to upgrade EQ2 fully to shader 3.0+ with the dropping of shader 1.0/2.0 support in future graphics cards?

    5) Does SOE have any links with the Sony retail stores (or work with other parts of the Sony Group)? One example I could quote is in the UK where the new 3D laptop is demo’d, but only with a standard 3D movie when EQ2 in 3D would be a more impressive demo.

That’s all I think think for now, looking forward to hearing the show (although it’ll probably be in podcast form as it’ll be an “ungodly” time in the morning for me ;) ).

I want to know when the new EQ2 website is going to pop up? The current site is completely broken, with no Velious gear listed in it at all, meaning character sheets are all empty now, and the paper doll feature has been broken for over a year. What sort of new features will be given to developers on the new site?, any chances at a beta for any api’s they’re letting us use?

  • Magar

My main question is… EQ Next? Anything? Please? With sugar on top?

The reason I ask is because in December I have to make a choice about re-upping for another year or a shorter period. Yes, Smed, mention the discounts on large prepayments for the ‘new’ all access pass, that’s what makes it so hard to choose! I like the perks I’m getting with Platinum membership in EQ2 Extended but if I could maybe expect to see EQ Next in that one year period maybe I’d be inclined towards a year of the all access pass and spend a little more SC than I’d originally planned.

My other question is about the authenticators! I saw a picture of the back of one, and it looks just like Vasco’s Digipass GO 6 also sold by Square-Enix. Would the one I already own work for my SOE account?

Thanks Smed, looking forward to the show!

I’m sorry, but, Smed’s already told me that he can’t get into EQNext during the interview

Whatever happened to all the Facebook games once associated with SOE? Not just Dungeon Overlord, but Wildlife Refuge, To Catch a Killer, etc… To be honest, I don’t play Dungeon Overlord nearly as much as I did in its early days, when I could spend a reasonable amount of Station Cash to do things (like transmute surpluses into needed items, or purchase boosts to research, mining, etc.).

And in a completely different direction — I was heartened to see the cherry trees appear in the Plane of Knowledge in EverQuest, symbolizing relief efforts for the disaster-stricken people of Japan. I would request that the trees stay there until the last person leaves the last emergency shelter and is back home. Do you suppose we could get some updates on what specific help was provided by the money we donated via virtual purchases? The earthquake/tsunami are no longer headline news, but the effects of those events will continue for years. Perhaps future items might be offered to continue aid….

Just wanted to state that, some of the comments being sent in for my interview with John Smedley may actually be better suited for Dave Georgeson, the Producer of EQ2.. Dave is in direct charge of EQ2. But, don’t worry, your comments are not being buried, I’ll pass them on to Smed

The current ‘world event’ pointed out 4 things: the complete disdain of the non-90, non-raiding players and just how much damage a ‘prima donna’ developer can do to the entire community. It showed how the community can actually get together and defeat the large monsters; it also showed that the community will no longer remain silent and be shat upon by the developers and their ‘special’ friends. It is unfortunate that a core group of syncophants carry too much influence with the development team, so much so that the world population of Norrath is now largely ignored.

The disdain, Smed, is a trickle down effect from the top, as it is in any corporation. How do YOU plan to work with the EQ2 team to repair the damage caused by this event?

  • Mykei

I will never have a playstation, a 2 xbox house here. I have played most of your MMO’s for years on and off. Spent a lot of cash and time and feel I have got my money’s worth… I would hope I don’t need to buy a playstation to continue to enjoy games.

EQ was my first MMO starting with kunark expansion. I still play it and love most of the game. Will in the near future we be seeing offline bazaar like in eq2? With email of coins and items? The game doesn’t feel “green” to me when I have to leave a computer running 24/7 to sell something I made…

So what’s it like having a kid who can drive? What’s more stressful, quarterly financial reports or a child driving themselves to a nighttime activity?

  • Matia

    Hiya Smed.

I know your kids like Free Realms, but are they also looking forward to any of the newer titles that are upcoming, and if so, which ones?
And speaking of new titles, when will we get to see more of the new engine and the titles it is going into?

“Why has experienced been so massively nerfed into the ground on overland mobs? I ask due to the amount of experience you used to get from training around and killing tons and tons of mobs used to make overland zones fun for PLing in that fashion. Nowadays it’s pointless and you’ll see that most of Antonica, Commonlands, Nektulous Forest, Thundering Steppes, etc etc etc are generally empty zones with tumbleweeds blowing through them. The reason for “that” is due to most people tend to now do their PLing by killing tons of mobs inside dungeons with higher Zone Experience Modifiers. I find that it seems to take away from the game to have massive zones generally always devoid of people for this reason. I remember back in the good old days (before Pillars of Flame) when people used to enjoy running around overland zones and bumping into each other, grouping and having fun, etc. Any plans to “up” the experience on overland mobs anytime soon?”

  • Sprocket

This one is for Smed directly.

Over the last couple years, a large number of high quality developers and community relations people have been laid off from SOE, either as a result of downsizing or project cancellation. Other major name developers have left SOE on their own to join other competing companies, such as Scott Hartsman and Alan Crosby.

Why are you laying them off? What are you doing to retain your development teams and community personnel? And in this tough economy, why would anyone want to work for SOE — where you guys are perceived to be constantly downsizing — instead of your competitors like Blizzard and Trion where they AREN’T constantly downsizing?

  • Seanguy

    Dear Smed, would you…

a.) Please consider bugbears or aviaks as playable races for EQ2?
b.) Please consider mailing more than one item at a time?
c.) Please consider tinkered hand grenades with knockback?

  • Andriella

    Time for some Planetside? 2?

For starters, I want to let you know we really appreciate having the devs come over and post on forums! As for questions:

    When is beta? :)
What is your favourite PS2 continent/weapon/armor so far?
What song should Jethal parody next?
What song should Elquin make a video of next?

What is your favourite single player RPG?

  • Coopendor

My Inquisitor is mainly a group/instance player on the Bazaar server. As a group instance player, my gear progression has been several sets of armor. Starting with the quested gear, PQ gear, GD instance gear, and currently the Ry`Gorr set. This is not including the jewelry that comes along with it. My point is, it turns out to be Adornment intensive!! A person can go broke trying to keep his/her gear adorned to get the maximum for that set of gear. Would it be possible to get an ability to transfer adornments from one piece of gear to a new piece for a small fee? Maybe create a crafted potion that could be made and sold on the broker that would “wash” the adornment off of an old piece to be reused on a new piece?

    Thank you for your time.

    OMG so many questions!

Do you play EQ2 for fun outside of work?
If so, what’s your favorite class so far?
What do you like to do (craft, solo, instances, BGs, raid, etc.)?
What part of EQ2 are you most proud of?
Would you like to come help me in a trade skill raid this week for my Ry’Gorr armor book so I don’t have to solo it again? =D
